Glen Gairn

The land of Gairn stretches from Morven near Tarland to the rocky tors of Ben Avon in the Cairngorms. From below Ben Avon the River Gairn starts its sinuous journey to the Dee some twenty miles away, criss-crossing ancient tracks and drove roads which carried trade, soldiers, religion, smugglers, freebooters, royalty and displaced people through the glen.
In my photographs I have tried to capture the isolation of these abandoned remote communities. I have tried to find the ruined and deserted settlements and attempted to keep them alive in our minds and hopefully raise some interest in their story.
